D1xH1 ATEX, IECEx-certified explosion-proof heat detector
Explosion-proof heat detector D1xH1 for ATEX, IECEx and UKEx hazardous areas. Robust, IP66/67, it ensures reliable thermal detection in areas with explosive gases and dusts. Detailed description
Overview of the product
The D1xH1 Heat Detector is an explosion-proof heat detector designed for harsh industrial environments and hazardous areas. It triggers an alarm in the event of an abnormal rise in temperature, particularly in explosive atmospheres containing flammable gases or dust.
Manufactured by European Safety Systems Ltd, E2S Warning Signals, this detector is suitable for critical applications requiring reliable thermal monitoring, such as chemical, petrochemical and industrial sites, storage areas, ATEX installations, or environments subject to stringent fire safety requirements.
The D1xH1 is available in several versions, including the D1xH1,A and D1xH1,H models. The D1xH1,A version is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from –55 °C to +80 °C, whilst the high-temperature version D1xH1,H can be used up to +125 °C depending on the configuration.
Durability and materials
The D1xH1 features a housing made from copper-free LM6 marine-grade aluminium alloy, designed to withstand harsh industrial environments. Its chromate finish with powder coating provides excellent protection against corrosion and meets the requirements of ISO 12944-6 CX, C5VH and C5H.
Its IP66/67 protection rating ensures excellent resistance to dust, water splashes and adverse weather conditions. The product also meets additional classifications in accordance with industry standards, notably IP6X for explosive dust atmospheres, as well as the classifications 4 / 4X / 3R / 13 in accordance with UL50E / NEMA250.
Thanks to its robust design, the D1xH1 is ideal for outdoor installations, industrial production areas, corrosive environments and sites exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Reliable and durable thermal detection
The detector incorporates a thermal element D,A,F rate-compensated heat detector, with a stainless steel housing and hermetically sealed internal contacts. This design ensures reliable detection, even when the environment is subject to temperature fluctuations.
The activation temperature is factory-set. A range of thresholds is available, from 60 °C to 385 °C, to ensure the detector is suited to the thermal conditions at the site and the requirements of the fire safety system.
The D1xH1 operates on the principle of thermal contact. In standby mode, the internal contacts remain open. When the set temperature is reached, the contacts close to transmit the alarm signal to the connected system.
Installation and user-friendliness
The D1xH1 has been designed to facilitate on-site installation. It can be installed in several ways: surface-mounted, mounted on a duct via the 3/4" NPT inlet, or using an adjustable stainless steel wall/ceiling bracket available as an accessory.
The sensing element is not position-dependent. It can therefore be mounted vertically or horizontally depending on the installation requirements, provided that the flow of hot air to the sensing element is not obstructed.
Cable entries are available in M20 x 1.5 and 3/4" NPT, allowing for flexible integration in line with site standards. Plugs, press fittings, cable glands, adaptors or certified accessories can be used depending on the chosen configuration.
Cleaning, testing and maintenance
The D1xH1 must only be cleaned with a damp cloth, due to the potential risk of electrostatic charge. The product must not be opened in the presence of an explosive atmosphere.
Regular visual inspection is recommended. The sensing element must remain clean and free from dents, impacts, deposits, paint, grease or any build-up of foreign matter. If the sensing element is damaged, dented or painted, the sensor must be replaced.
The functional test is a GO/No Go test. It involves applying a suitable heat source, such as a heat gun, to the sensing element to verify that the internal contacts close when the set temperature is reached. This test must be carried out with the necessary precautions to prevent any unintended activation of the fire alarm system or an automatic fire-extinguishing system.
Maintenance must be carried out by qualified personnel, in accordance with the requirements applicable to equipment installed in explosive atmospheres. Repair of flameproof threaded joints is not permitted.
The recommended service life is 10 years of continuous operation, with an annual test recommended in accordance with NFPA or applicable local fire regulations.
